What Happened at the Onondaga County Legislative Session - September 2025

September 2nd 2025

The Onondaga County Legislature met this afternoon for our September session. I voted yes on all of the agenda items. Here are some highlights:

New Labor Contract (Item #1): We approved a new labor agreement with CSEA Local 834 covering corrections officers through 2027. This includes position changes in the Sheriff’s Department.

Petit Library Community Room funding (Item #6): I co-sponsored the resolution that authorized $653,262 in unused bond funds from the Central Library project to cover higher costs for the Petit Branch Library expansion.

Sanitary District Improvements (Items #9–19): We authorized more than $55 million in bonds for wastewater treatment and infrastructure upgrades. We also approved a budget transfer and accepted an easement from the Town of Lysander.

Short-Term Rentals Local Law (Local Law “a”): I co-sponsored and spoke in support of updating the County’s Hotel Room Occupancy Tax Law to ensure short-term rentals are registered and taxed fairly.

Lastly, and probably most importantly (Item #21): We began the session by honoring the late Legislator Mary T. Kuhn for her service and dedication to our community.

As many of you know, I managed Mary’s campaign in 2019, and she essentially served as my mentor throughout my time in local organizing. It’s still so fresh, and I still reach to call her for advice on certain things only another county legislator could understand. It’s hard being a county legislator and an advocate, and in my opinion she was the best of us.

I am glad the legislature officially honored her today.
