Jeremiah Thompson: Putting Neighbors First
August 24th 2025
When you meet Jeremiah Thompson, the first thing you notice is that he listens. He has built a career on helping people find their voices and navigate public life with honesty and clarity, and now he is bringing that same approach to his run for the Onondaga County Legislature’s 4th District.
From Working Class Roots to Central New York Service
Jeremiah grew up in a working-class household. His father worked long days on rooftops and his mother cared for patients as a nurse’s aide. Those early lessons about hard work and sacrifice have stayed with him. Jeremiah became the first in his family to graduate from college, and in 2003 he settled in Central New York with his wife, Sarah. Today they call Liverpool home.
Professionally, Jeremiah is a professor at Syracuse University, where he teaches professional writing and civic discourse. He currently serves on the Village of Liverpool’s Zoning Board, ensuring that community decisions reflect fairness and responsibility.
Why He’s Running
Jeremiah believes county government should reflect the everyday needs of families, not the interests of a few insiders. His priorities are clear:
Transparency and accountability in how decisions are made
Transportation investments that connect residents to work, school, and healthcare
Support for small businesses as the backbone of the local economy
Workforce training and education to prepare people for good jobs
Strengthening parks, arts, and culture to keep CNY vibrant for families
These goals are shaped by lived experience. Jeremiah knows what it means to juggle multiple jobs to make ends meet. He has worked in classrooms, retail, custodial services, and even as an actor. Each job reinforced his belief that government must do more to lower the cost of living and create fair opportunities.
A Neighbor, Not an Insider
What sets Jeremiah apart is his approach. He is not running to advance a career. He is running because he believes that government is supposed to be a tool for the people, one that should earn trust through openness, dialogue, and results.
That is why I am supporting him for County Legislature. I know Jeremiah will bring the same diligence he shows his students and his community to every vote he takes.
